Amid reports suggesting the Suns could look to trade Kevin Durant this summer, the Timberwolves have emerged as a team to watch as a potential trade partner.

The Wolves reportedly explored the possibility of acquiring Durant ahead of this year’s trade deadline, even reaching out to potential partners to discuss ways of shedding salary in order to get under the second apron. The goal was to aggregate money to make a deal for the 15-time All-Star.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst speculated on ESPN’s Get Up that the Timberwolves could revisit trade talks for Durant in the offseason. Windhorst noted that Minnesota’s star, Anthony Edwards, and Durant share a strong relationship dating back to their time together during last year’s Olympics.

With more financial flexibility and potential roster spots opening up this summer, the Timberwolves will likely explore adding the superstar to their roster.

For Phoenix, Durant’s future has been a topic of increasing speculation. The Warriors reportedly made a push to acquire Durant at the trade deadline as the Suns pursued a deal for Jimmy Butler. However, any move for Butler would have required Phoenix to trade either Durant or Devin Booker, due to salary cap restrictions related to the second apron.

With limited assets available for future moves, it’s plausible that the Suns may seek to retool a roster that currently finds itself on the fringes of postseason contention.

Despite the swirling trade rumors, Durant has remained focused on his goal of leading the Suns back to playoff contention, as relayed by ESPN. He has shown a continued commitment to his teammates and coach, regularly expressing support and taking an active role in the team’s efforts.
